Gelders Archief

Westervoortsedijk 67D, 6827 AT Arnhem

Project: The days when archivists went searching dusty archives with a candle in hand are long gone. Gelderland’s provincial archives, Het Gelders Archief, has opted for a modern and contemporary building entirely in keeping with the digital age. The lighting, too, is modern, convenient and pioneering. Dimmable and separately switchable so that the foyer can be lit specially for a particular activity – a conference or exhibition, for example – at the flick of a switch. The blue highlights in the interior are repeated in the lighting, in a functional way where necessary. The reception desk has for example been transformed into a blue oasis, making it immediately clear where visitors need to go to soak up some of Gelderland’s rich history.
